Commencement Eligibility

Commencement, convocations, and celebrations are ceremonial opportunities to celebrate a student’s accomplishments in completing or soon completing all necessary degree requirements. Graduation is the term used when a student has met all degree requirements and has been approved by their department.

Participation

Graduating is dependent upon meeting your degree requirements and the necessary approval of coursework. If you have questions, please contact Graduation Services Advisors. Any undergraduate, graduate or professional student graduating in the following terms may participate in ceremonies beginning May 11, 2021:

  • Fall 2020 / Winter 2020

  • Spring 2021 / Summer 2021

  • Fall 2021 / Winter 2021

August candidates will be listed in the Commencement program for the preceding May. December/Winter candidates, whose degrees have been awarded, will be listed in the following Spring Commencement program.

The program for May 2021 will contain the names of the following degree recipients and applicants: Fall 2020/Winter 2020 (awarded), Spring 2021 (applied), Summer 2021 (applied).

Note: All application deadlines must be met and FERPA name restrictions released for printing consideration.

Students who graduate in December may participate in either the Commencement prior to or following their expected graduation date. Students are not eligible to participate twice.

Student Checklist

There are some circumstances when a student can participate or walk in a ceremony prior to graduating, or meeting all degree requirements. Students will not have graduated from the University of Arizona if not all degree requirements are met, even if they participate in an official ceremony.

Stay in touch with your academic advisor to ensure you are on track to graduate.

Apply for degree candidacy in your UAccess Student Center.  Spring and Summer graduates have a deadline of February 1st of the intended semester and Fall and Winter graduates have a deadline of September 1st of the intended semester. A $50 application fee will apply, and a $50 Late Candidacy Application will be applied for late applications.

After submitting the application for degree candidacy, degree candidates must contact and meet with their Academic Advisor to initiate the Degree Audit Worksheet (DAW). The DAW is a form required by Graduation Services, which will communicate your plan to complete your final degree requirements. This form must be completed by your advisors and returned to your Graduation Services Advisor.

Ensure your diploma address in UAccess is correct so your diploma is delivered to the right place. You can expect to receive your diploma approximately 2-3 weeks after your degree is posted.
