Faculty Instructions
TO MEMBERS OF THE FACULTY:
We urge you to attend this important event in the University Year. Commencement will be held in McKale Center on Saturday, December 19, 2009, immediately following the procession that begins promptly at 9:10 a.m.
The faculty will report in academic costume and assemble in the Main Library before 9:00 a.m., in two lines without regard to affiliation or rank. You will process from the library to McKale, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes.
Marshals will lead you to McKale Center and to your seats. If you leave your seat during the ceremony, you will be allowed to return to your seat during the next break in the proceedings.
Only faculty in academic attire will be permitted to march in the procession and be seated in the section reserved for faculty.
Following the ceremony there will be no recessional for faculty. You may leave once the platform group has left.
In our continuing efforts to highlight the achievements of students and the role faculty have in those success stories, we ask that you let us know of interesting items for dissemination to the media. The quality of this event’s press coverage depends on the information the UA News Services Office provides to the press. UA News Services depends upon the faculty to provide information about students who might be the subject of a human interest story, such as someone who has overcome great obstacles to graduate or who has conducted interesting and significant research of interest to the public. It is essential, however, that you talk to the student ahead of time. As commencement approaches, but no later than Friday, December 5, at 5:00 p.m., please provide the student’s name, contact information, and a short paragraph or two regarding the student's background. Send information to: Rebecca McGill, who can be contacted at (520) 621-1878, rrmcgill@u.arizona.edu, or www.uanews.org
